Welcome to Ubuntu Bush House

Ubuntu!

Ubuntu comes from the Zulu phrase "umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu" which means "A man is only a person through other people" or "I am what I am because of who we all are". Ubuntu stands for kindness, caring, openness, sustainability, sharing and living in harmony with nature and with respect for everything and everyone. It is also the philosophy of Marloth Park, as here people are on equal footing with the animals.
'Ubuntu' has a fundamentally different view on the value of the individual. In the Western world the emphasis lies on optimizing the individual, with 'Ubuntu' it is: "My value is determined by my meaning for others".

Ubuntu Bush House

Daily visit of zebra`s Since January 2010 we are the proud owners of this beautiful piece of nature in South Africa. Ubuntu Bush House is a nature holiday house for 4-5 persons in Marloth game park, a stone`s throw from Kruger Park, South Africa. Ubuntu Bush House has a fully equipped open plan kitchen with a stove, refrigerator and freezer, a cozy living room with a double sofa and two armchairs. The two bedrooms, with each room for two persons, have airconditioning. All rooms have patio doors that give you direct access to the covered porch. There is a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet.
To ensure complete peace and freedom, we bought the plot between our plot and the Crocodile River. Now we secured a free passage to the Kruger Park. A total area of 5340 m2 with parkland adjacent on two sides.
Of course you will experience African life and nature best if you live outside as much as possible. This can be done on the beautiful large porch extending over the entire length of the house. Do you fancy a nice piece of (game) meat from the grill? If so, you can use the braai while sitting around the campfire with a group of friends. Of course you can expect to be visited by a few curious baboons or vervet monkeys.

House with braai en pool This part of Africa is known to be warm-to-hot the whole year round during daytime and it can be very refreshing to have a dip in the pool. Now this can be done in our newly built permanent (splash) pool. Or if you still want, you can go to one of the pools a lodge or to the pool at the Municipality.
Even if you travel as a backpacker by public transport, you can enjoy the African nature at Ubuntu Bush House. Our caretaker can pick you up from the bus stop in Komatipoort for a small fee.

Marloth Park

Do you like to ride a bike among the wild animals? Or get face to face with a giraffe while walking in the park? This is your chance. If you are interested in African nature, you certainly have no shortage of wildlife here. In Marloth Park the animals roam freely around the houses, so don`t be surprised to see animals like zebras, warthogs, kudus, wildebeasts and impalas in the garden when you open the curtain in the morning. Enjoy a drink on the porch, called stoep, and you will come face to face with the wild animals of Marloth Park. Do you prefer to get on a bike and ride through the park and see on one side of the road the impalas and on the other side a herd of wildebeasts? These are the charms of Marloth Park.
On the way to the look-out point you pass a large permanent waterhole at only 250 m from the house. This waterhole is regularly visited by the animals and is also populated by a number of crocodiles, so do not walk too close to the waterfront! The look-out point itself lies 500 m away from the house with a clear view across the Crocodile River into Kruger National Park. There is a good change that you will see crocodiles, hippos, buffaloes and elephants. The view along the river is breathtaking with beautiful sunsets and herds of elephants that come to the river to drink. Occasionally you will see lions drinking.
Marloth Park is a paradise for birdwatchers. In the area more than 300 different species of birds have been recorded; including several species of weaverbirds, storks, swallows, bee-eaters and scavengers. You can hear the call of the Fish Eagle and with some luck you will be able to see it.

Lionspruit Private Nature Reserve

Marloth Park has its own private nature reserve, called Lionspruit. From the Big Five, you can find the lion, leopard, rhino or buffalo. Lionspruit is a 1500 ha fenced bush park where you can find all the animals from Kruger National Park, with the exception of the elephant. Guests of Ubuntu Bush House have free access to Lionspruit by private car. At some viewpoints and waterholes you may leave your car but you must always be aware of lions and leopards in Lionsspruit! It is also possible to book an organized game drive to the park with our caretaker Alison.
Recently cheetahs are spotted in Lionspruit and Marloth Park. This is likely a group of four young cheetahs from Kruger Park in search for their own territory. Hopefully, the newcomers are not disturbed to much, so they will settle themselves permanently in Lionspruit. For sure they can feast on an abundance of impala!

Kruger National Park

The Kruger Park is one of the oldest National Parks of South Africa. Originally, only the part south of Skukuza was declared as National Park. Over time it evolved into what is now the Kruger Park. Nowadays Kruger Park is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. Besides Kruger National Park GLTP includes Limpopo National Park in Mozambique and the Gonarezhou National Park, Manjinji Pan Sanctuary and Malipati Safari Area in Zimbabwe. In total, this park covers an area of 35,000 km2. There are many websites with information on Kruger National Park. The official website is www.sanparks.org.
A great private site is www.thekruger.com.
The Peace Parks Foundation is aiming at the integration of nature and the local people without any bounderies. The ultimate Ubuntu philosophy!
